McCaskill owes people explanation for support of health boondoggle.

An open letter to Sen. Claire McCaskill:Weeks ago, the Senate voted to proceed with the unprecedented government-controlled health care plan being proposed by President Obama and crafted by Harry Reid. While Sen. Kit Bond chose to vote against moving forward with this so called "health care reform," you, senator, voted to move this bill forward.

A Pre-Christmas Visit to Camp Pendleton

By Ben Stein on 12.14.09 @ 6:09AM

Thursday

A dreary, cold day in Southern California. My pal Lisa Agustsson and I drove down the 405 Freeway to the 5, immense ten lane highways most of the way, to Camp Pendleton, the major Marine Corps base on the West Coast. I had been invited to appear and meet and greet Marines attached to a rocket artillery battalion about to deploy to Afghanistan.

Honor veterans today, every day

Express-News Editorial Board -

It's been 90 years since Nov. 11 was proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson as the first commemoration of Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I - the Great War known as "the war to end all wars."
Because it wasn't, because there were more wars to be fought and endured, Congress would eventually move to rename it Veterans Day and to honor all the men and women who have served in the military.

Don't put the brakes on Tour of Missouri funding

From the Kansas City Star- 9/14/2009

Sports fans across the nation and in 111 other countries watched as bicycle
racers zipped by the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, through the Ozarks and
past Kansas City's Liberty Memorial during the just-ended Tour of
Missouri.

As officials at the Missouri Department of Tourism
note, the state can't buy that kind of exposure. Or as spokeswoman
Sarah Luebbert put it: "The cost for that kind of television coverage
would be astronomic."

Now a new version of work begins. Work, and also hope.

Peter
Kinder, Missouri's lieutenant governor, will send a letter to Gov. Jay
Nixon requesting a meeting about continuing the Tour of Missouri next
year.

Kinder wants to work to make that happen. There are very
real reasons to believe it won't. For now, Kinder can't do much more
than hope that he hears back from Nixon.

Missouri's future beyond 2009 uncertain

Lt. Governor says "herculean effort" to ensure 2010 event

While
the prestige and stature of the Tour of Missouri has grown with each of
its three years, there's currently a question mark over a fourth
edition of the stage race in 2010. Despite being one of only five 2.HC
races outside of Europe and drawing its strongest-ever field,
Missouri's Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder remained cautious about the
event's future.
