Text of Mo. Republican response to State of State

Thank you, and good evening.

It's an honor to speak to you tonight, and with the many Missourians watching this broadcast at home.

These are tough times, and I know you're here tonight and watching at home because you want honest answers about the future of our state.

12 months ago, Governor Nixon announced that hundreds of millions of dollars of so-called "stimulus" funds were heading to Missouri. And, despite our warnings, he irresponsibly chose to balance his budget with that money.

A dreary, cold day in Southern California. My pal Lisa Agustsson and I drove down the 405 Freeway to the 5, immense ten lane highways most of the way, to Camp Pendleton, the major Marine Corps base on the West Coast. I had been invited to appear and meet and greet Marines attached to a rocket artillery battalion about to deploy to Afghanistan.

It's been 90 years since Nov. 11 was proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson as the first commemoration of Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I - the Great War known as "the war to end all wars."
Because it wasn't, because there were more wars to be fought and endured, Congress would eventually move to rename it Veterans Day and to honor all the men and women who have served in the military.

The Tour of Missouri has transcended its status as the second
biggest bike race in the United States and continues to be a political
pawn, a week after the race ended in Kansas City. Today, some of the
top-ranking Democrats in the Missouri Legislature sent a letter to Gov.
Jay Nixon, a fellow Democrat, in support of the race.
